My Cinnabon Recipe

You absolutely have to try this Cinnabon recipe! The first time I made these cinnamon rolls, I realized just how much money I could save by baking my own homemade versions instead of buying them. A word of warning, though: these sweet buns are addictive, and you will want to bake them again and again.

Instructions

  1. Start by mixing the warm milk with sugar and yeast. Add about 1/3 of the flour so that the yeast dough takes on the consistency of thick sour cream. Set this aside for 15 minutes. During this time, the mixture should begin to foam, which is a good sign that the yeast is active.
  2. Add the remaining flour, the room-temperature egg, the softened butter, and the salt.
  3. Mix the cinnamon roll dough until it becomes smooth. Cover it with plastic wrap and place it in a warm, humid spot for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the mass has doubled in size.
  4. Once proofed, turn the sweet dough out onto a surface dusted with flour. Roll it into a rectangle, brush it with butter, and sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon and sugar.
  5. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut it into equal buns. It helps to use a buttered knife for this step so it doesn’t stick to the dough.
  6. Leave the cinnamon buns to proof in a warm place for another hour.
  7. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees.
  8. Before baking, brush the tops of the rolls with a mixture of egg yolk and milk.
  9. Bake for approximately 30-35 minutes.
  10. While the homemade cinnamon rolls are still hot, cover them with the mixture of cream cheese and powdered sugar.
