Chilli Hills
Building a Product Catalog System Across 50+ SKUs
The Challenge
Chilli Hills Foods Ltd. had evolved rapidly from a niche hot sauce producer into a diversified specialty food brand. Their product portfolio now spans over 50 SKUs across multiple categories: premium hot sauces, fresh salsas, spicy jams, chilli spice blends, flavored rakia, artisan chips, curated gift boxes, and branded merchandise.
Each product needed professional catalog photography suitable for their e-commerce website, retail partnerships, wholesale presentations, and marketing campaigns. But the challenge wasn’t simply creating beautiful images - it was building a system that could scale as their product line continued to expand.
Previous one-off photoshoots couldn’t keep pace with new launches. The business needed a repeatable framework: consistent visual language, documented shot lists, optimized lighting setups, and background systems that would make every new product feel like a natural part of the Chilli Hills visual ecosystem.
The Catalog Approach
We developed a systematic photography methodology designed for scale and consistency. Rather than approaching each new product as an isolated shoot, we created a catalog framework that treats every SKU as part of a unified visual system.
The core principles:
- Clean white backgrounds for e-commerce clarity, ensuring products stand out and integrate straightforwardly into marketplace listings
- Consistent three-angle documentation: front (label focus), side (profile and depth), and back (nutritional/regulatory information) for every bottle, jar, and package
- Standardized lighting geometry that remains constant across all products, eliminating variations that disrupt visual continuity
- Repeatable shot lists organized by product category with documented specifications for angle, distance, and styling
- Family group compositions showing product ranges together - all five hot sauces, the complete spice collection, gift box sets

What We Built
Our deliverables span six distinct asset categories, each serving specific business purposes:
Individual Bottle Catalog Shots
The foundation of the system: clean, standardized three-view documentation for every product. Front views emphasize labels and brand identity. Back views display nutritional panels, ingredients, and regulatory text essential for marketplace compliance.

Product Family Lineups
Showcasing range depth and variety. These compositions present all products within a category together - creating visual impact for marketing and retail presentations.

Gift Box Compositions
Open and closed configurations for curated gift sets. Open boxes reveal product assortments with clear label visibility. Closed configurations showcase packaging design for e-commerce thumbnails.

Specialty Collections: Chilli Pastes and Artisan Condiments
Dedicated catalog shots for the premium chilli paste range - ten distinct varieties photographed with identical standards to ensure visual family cohesion across the entire collection.

The System
The real value isn’t in any single photograph - it’s in the documented, repeatable framework that makes every future product launch faster and more consistent.
When Chilli Hills develops a new hot sauce variety or introduces a seasonal spice blend, the system is ready. We have:
- Shot list templates organized by product category with exact angle, distance, and background specifications
- Lighting geometry documentation ensuring new products match existing catalog consistency
- Background infrastructure (white surfaces, turntables, stands) configured for immediate use
- Batch scheduling protocols that allow us to photograph multiple new SKUs efficiently without reshooting existing products
A new product moving through this system doesn’t require reinventing the visual language. The photographer executes the documented shot list. The editing team applies consistent color correction and background treatment. The result is a cohesive catalog where every product - whether from the original launch or added two years later - feels intentionally designed.
This approach reduces time-per-SKU, eliminates visual discontinuity, and positions Chilli Hills to scale their product line without scaling photography complexity.
The Result
Chilli Hills now has a complete visual catalog spanning 50+ products across all major categories. These assets serve multiple business channels simultaneously:
- E-commerce website: Consistent product photography suitable for detail pages, category browsing, and featured listings
- Marketplace integration: Catalog-standard images formatted for Amazon, Etsy, specialty food platforms, and wholesale networks
- Wholesale presentations: Professional lineup and arrangement photography for retail partner pitches and distributor catalogs
- Marketing and social media: Lifestyle imagery, seasonal compositions, and gift set photography supporting brand storytelling
- Brand documentation: Complete visual inventory of the Chilli Hills product ecosystem for internal reference and future expansion
The product catalog system transforms photography from a project with an end date into a living, scalable asset that grows alongside the business.
