Instructions for Making Homemade Donuts
-
Prepare the Yeast Dough: Mix the milk and yeast with 3 tablespoons of flour (taken from the total amount). Wait 10 minutes; if foam appears, your yeast is active and ready to use. Next, add the egg, egg yolk, sugar, vanilla, nutmeg, and the remaining flour. Begin kneading the dough. After 1 minute, incorporate the salt and butter. Knead until the texture is smooth (this takes about 5 minutes in a food processor with a hook attachment). The dough should be easy to handle and not sticky. Leave the finished dough to rise for 1.5 hours in a warm place, covered with a towel. After this rising time, roll out the dough on a surface dusted with flour (or lightly oiled with sunflower oil) to about 1 cm thick. Cut out your shapes with a hole in the center (you can also simply cut them into rectangles if you don’t have a special cutter). Carefully transfer these shaped pieces to baking paper sprinkled with flour. Cover them with a towel and let them rest for another 30 minutes to rise further.

Fry the Homemade Donuts: Heat the vegetable oil to 160°C. The oil should be hot enough that when a small piece of dough is dropped in, it begins to boil gently, not aggressively. Using a thermometer will make it easier to determine the precise temperature for frying perfectly. Fry each donut for 2-3 minutes on each side until beautifully golden brown. Place the finished, hot pastries first on a paper towel to absorb excess oil. While still hot, dip them into a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Remember, the finer the sugar, the more effectively it will stick to the fresh surface. Enjoy your delicious dessert!
