Napoleon Snack Cake

Prep Time: 20 min / Cook Time: 20 min / Total Time: 40 min

This cake is loved by Slavic people and causes mild panic among other nations 😆 How about trying and deciding it out for yourself?!

And I know what I'm talking about—I've fed this "not-a-cake" to Bulgarians, Ukrainians, Turkmen, Belarusians, and Russians. Everyone enjoyed it. I made it with "Черока" puff cake layers and "tuc" crackers with dill and sour cream, using both homemade puff pastry and store-bought. Everything tastes delicious...

The main thing is that this "not a cake, not a salad" can be quickly made, and it will take a prominent place on the New Year's table! Trust me, it will be devoured first. Choose the version of "cake layers" that suits you, and don't forget to let me know if you like it 😉

Napoleon Snack Cake

Yield: 1 cake

Ingredients

Snack Cake

  • 2 sheets of puff pastry (non-yeast) or 2 packs of dill crackers

  • 100 ml mayonnaise (approximately)

  • 1 can of canned fish (I use tuna, and also used to make it with saury in its juice)

  • 4 boiled eggs

  • 100 g cheese

  • 2 pc onions

  • 2 pc carrots

Instructions

Boil the eggs and chop them finely. Finely chop and sauté the onions and carrots in olive oil, and grate the cheese.

If you have puff pastry, bake it and, after cooling, cut it lengthwise to get 4 layers.

1——— Spread the crackers (or prepared layers or baked layers). Spread mayonnaise on them (you can optionally add a bit of dill and 1/4 clove of garlic). On the mayonnaise, add the sautéed and cooled onions and carrots, approximately 3/4 of the total amount.

2——— Again, crackers. I smear each layer of crackers with mayonnaise, but you can skip this step. On top of the mayonnaise-covered crackers, add a layer of finely chopped canned fish, about 3/4 of the can.

3——— Again, crackers + mayonnaise. Add boiled eggs (sometimes I even grate them).

4——— Again, crackers + mayonnaise. Spread the remaining chopped canned fish and vegetables (onion and carrot) as a layer.

5——— Again, crackers were smeared with mayonnaise. Cover the cake tightly until the guests arrive and let it sit in the refrigerator; it will become softer. Before serving, sprinkle the cake with grated cheese.

Enjoy your meal!

They are coated with a crumbly layer of finely chopped nuts or breadcrumbs, giving them a textured and slightly rough appearance. The candies look homemade, with an uneven, natural surface. Inside, you can see bits of ingredients that resemble a mix of nuts and dried fruits, creating a dense, slightly grainy texture. The colors of the candies are warm, with shades of golden, brown, and creamy tones, suggesting the use of natural ingredients like almonds and dried apricots.
